A guide: Five of the best places to enjoy Cream Tea

A Dorset Cream Tea is a culinary delight that has truly stood the test of time, it’s a quintessentially British tradition. The heavenly combination of freshly baked scones, clotted cream and fruity jam, all accompanied by a steaming pot of tea, is a must-try experience for those visiting Dorset.

This experience is a personal favourite of mine, which means I have tried many over my years living in this county so here are a few of my personal favourite places to visit…

  1. Upwey Wishing Well

This quaint little tea room will have you at the moment you walk in through the door. It was voted ‘Best Tearoom in Dorset’ by the Dorset Tourism Awards in 2023/2024 so it’s well worth a visit. Take a stroll around their beautiful gardens once you are finished and be sure to make your wish at the famous well.

2. Moonfleet Manor Hotel

This hidden gem overlooks the stunning Jurassic Coastline, a Georgian Manor Hotel which serves a wonderful Dorset Cream Tea and offers a truly wonderful dining experience.

3. The Lobster Pot

Set in truly unique setting near the cliff edge of Portland Bill, enjoy your cream tea with views of the Jurassic Coastline as far as the eye can see. It’s an experience not to be missed…

4. Love Cake Cafe, Swanage

This one might be outside of Weymouth but it’s most definitely worth the trip… Love Cake is a shabby chic and cosy cafe nestled in Swanage. They offer a welcoming service and selection of cakes that you can only dream about… their cream tea is a lovely experience and one to be enjoyed after an explore around the lovely town of Swanage.

5. Summer Lodge

Take a trip along the coastline to the Summer Lodge Country House and Hotel where they offer a backdrop of English countryside and a peaceful environment. Enjoy a cream tea in their conservatory, whiskey lounge, drawing room or al fresco if the weather allows.
